Crest White Strips Review
What are Crest White Strips?
Crest White Strips are the pioneer of at home teeth whitening and are known as one of the best teeth whitening products on the market. Although there were other at home teeth whitening products available, Crest was the first brand to make the public aware of at home teeth whitening. As of 2009, Crest White Strips was the most purchased teeth whitening product on the market. Crest White Strips have gone through a series of evolutions since their original release in 2001. Consumer reports recently rated Crest White Strips the best of 8 teeth whitening products of which Crest White Strips was the most expensive.
How Do Crest White Strips Work?
Crest was the first and only company to use the “Strip” and it is exactly as it sounds. Originally the strip was placed on your teeth and you would leave it there for 20 minutes (depending on which version you used) until Crest recently came out with their Advanced Seal Technology. With this new technology, the strips literally stick to your teeth until you are finished whitening. Not only do they stick to your teeth, they are virtually immovable. When you are finished with you whitening session, you need to literally peel the strips from your teeth as you would a band-aid. This is a big draw for this product as you can talk and do whatever you want while you are whitening your teeth.
Crest White Strips also come with a dry gel. The strips are not wet when you place them onto your teeth. Crest has figured a way to make the gel turn into a glue like substance that adheres to your teeth and still whitens effectively.

Editors Thoughts on Crest White Strips
When doing our Crest White Strips review, we agreed that it’s hard to argue with this monster product. Crest literally owns the over the counter teeth whitening market. Crest definitely whitens teeth as it uses the standard teeth whitening ingredients. Crest’s Advance Seal Technology is very easy and convenient to use. As a general rule, we have found Crest White Strips to cause a considerable amount of sensitivity. In using them over the years, we have struggled to use them for more than three days because our teeth were just too sensitive. At the same time, the product works and it’s very affordable.
Consumers Opinion on Crest White Strips Teeth Whitening
Crest White Strips get some of the best consumer teeth whitening reviews out there. As a general rule, the overall consensus of consumers is 4 out of 5 stars.
I was really skeptical about these but then I read I'd get money back if I wasn't satisfied. I've had this huge stain on my front tooth literally for as long as I can remember and the dentist said it's impossible to go away without strong bleaching. I've been giving these a try and I must say they're super amazing. I've only been using them for a week (I got the 20 day ones) and the stain has already significantly faded. I strongly recommend them. I'm not near as uncomfortable with myself when I smile my :D
Also I've had no problem with sensitivity at all.
You should make a big warning sign fold over teeth .. do NOT put on gums
But they did work alright ima rate about a 3
My teeth are definitely whiter!
Well these strips work great. I'm always skeptical about products like this because I've rarely known a quick-fix product to work for me, and I think alot of the time the results are all in the consumer's head. I also never have the patience to go through the entire duration instructed on the box. However, I've been using this product for two days now, and I already notice a difference, and my friends do too. I can only imagine how white my teeth will be at the end of the week. The fact that it only takes a week is worth it to me, too.
The only reason I don't give this product 5 stars is because it is making my teeth ridiculously sensitive! I've had my mouth closed for an hour now and the pain still hasn't subsided. I might just be a big baby, but it's a very intense tingling, that of which I'm not sure I can handle for the entire week. However, all in all I do recommend this product and I doubt your experience will be as painful as mine.
Crests Latest Bleaching Product Strip Stays on Teeth
As a dentist, I am often asked by patients and friends where to start in terms of selecting a bleaching product. Since Crest produces some very good products, I generally steer them to Crest products. However, there are a multitude of Crest bleaching products to select from, so where does one begin? Here is my advice in selecting and using Crest Bleaching products:
First, let's begin with the Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal. This product was introduced in February, 2009. It contains a 10% hydrogen peroxide gel that is attached to a clear strip (like a band-aid) that wraps around the teeth. The primary advantage to this system is that the strip adheres to the teeth better than all the previous whitestrip products. In fact, some users report that it can be somewhat difficult to remove. However, having a strip that adheres to the teeth allows the user to do other things (remain active) while they bleach - work-out, shop, drive, talk, even drink fluids. The previous versions instructed the user to bleach for 30 minutes while stationary so the strip would not be displaced. In terms of bleaching effectiveness, Advanced Seal is equivalent to Crest Premium, Premium-Plus, and Pro Effects (as they all have a 10% hydrogen peroxide gel).
A brief review of the other Crest bleaching products is in order to understand the options available. Crest White Strips come in as many as 7 different formulations. This can be very confusing for the consumer! Please remember the key difference in all these products is the strength of the hydrogen peroxide gel, and of course the price. The higher the dose of hydrogen peroxide, the faster the bleaching result, and the most costly as well. Here is a quick summary of the products:
1. Crest White Strips Classic (6% hydrogen peroxide, 14-day treatment). 2. Crest White Strips Premium (10% hydrogen peroxide, 7-day treatment). 3. Crest White Strips Premium Plus (10% hydrogen peroxide, and has 12 additional strips).
4. Crest Pro Effects (10% hydrogen peroxide, 10-day treatment).
5. Crest Advanced Seal (10% hydrogen peroxide, 10-day treatment).
6. Daily Whitening Multicare (6% hydrogen peroxide, 5-minutes/day, 6-week supply)
7. Daily Whitening with Tartar Protection (6% hydrogen peroxide, 5-minutes/day, has a chemical that discourages tartar from attaching to the teeth, 38 upper and lower strips)
In using any of the Crest bleaching products, please follow the specified instructions that come with each product.
1. For most products, the instructions will direct you to bleach twice a day for 30-minutes a time. The inner part of the strip has a chemical called hydrogen peroxide that causes the stains inside your teeth to be oxidized and turn white. Applying the strips has a small learning curve as you will probably bend or fold a couple of them before you get the technique down.
2. Leave the strips on for the time recommended in the instructions and do not overbleach your teeth, as this can lead to sensitivity. Crest bleaching products will generally work for most people, especially younger people and those with yellow stains.
Potential Disadvantages to Consider
1. Hydrogen Peroxide can "burn" your gums. If you notice a burning sensation when you use the product, it is the chemical oxidizing (or burning) your gums (it will turn them white with a minor chemical burn). Depending on how severe the burning is, it may cause you to want to stop the treatment. It is OK to stop the treatment for a day or two to let the gums heal. Once they are healed, resume treatment with the White Strips. Try to not get the strip too far up on your gums.
2. Your teeth may become senstiive during the treatment time. Try to tolerate the sensitivity if it is mild, but if more severe, take a day or two off to let the teeth settle down and then pick up where you left off. You may notice much more sensitivity to cold water, ice cream, etc. The peroxide causes a revesible inflamation of the inner pulp, or nerve center of the tooth and makes the teeth very sensitive to biting or cold drinks or foods. If your teeth become too sensitive, back off on the strips until the sensitivity is gone before resuming bleaching.
3. The strips only cover your front teeth, so only your front teeth will bleach. You may notice the distinct difference between the back (unbleached) teeth and the front (bleached) teeth. Since most people notice the front 6 teeth anyway, this is not a big deal. However, if you have a wide toothy smile, you may want to have a dentist make you a tray that will hold the chemical on the back teeth to whiten them too.
4. The bleaching effect works best on yellow stains. If your stains are due to tetracycline (brownish grey stains in a band on your teeth, your best bet is to have a dentist whiten your teeth in the office for two sessions and then use White Strips to continue the bleaching process.
Crest White Strips work for the vast majority of people. Younger people with yellow stains seem to respond better than older people or those with gray stains. If you have severely stained teeth, especially those with tetracycline (an antibiotic) stain, the strips may not work well for you.
If you are not satisfied with the results and still want whiter teeth, you can then see your dentist for a more concentrated in-office form of bleaching. Crest offers a product called "Crest Whitestrips Supreme" through dental offices that can be used at home. It is a 14% hydrogen peroxide gel in a thinner strip. It is used for 30 minutes once or twice a day for 3 weeks.

Loved This Product!
I have used Crest White Strips for years and this product works. Yes, it is kind of sensitive on your teeth but from what I read, all of these types of products are.
An Advanced Solution That Works - But Still a Chore
As a person that consumes large amounts of coffee and tea, keeping my teeth white has been an ongoing struggle that has prompted me to buy just about every whitening product available. Every time Crest comes out with a new Whitestrips product I give it a try. Many have been disappointing, and all have proven to be a somewhat unpleasant chore to use. Now I understand that doing something to make your teeth whiter is worth some time and effort, but using the Crest Whitestrips is usually a messy, uncomfortable process that I have always dreaded. Still, I have always been able to get noticeable results so I continue to use them nonetheless. Until recently I was getting the best results from using the Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects 10-day System. However, those strips still tended to slide around on my teeth and required that I keep my mouth closed for the entire treatment.
In February I was given the opportunity to try the new Crest Advanced Seal Whitestrips kit. It is certainly a big improvement over the other Whitestrips products. The Advanced Seal kit only requires a 30 minute treatment once a day, whereas the rest of the Whitestrips product line requires two 30 minute treatments each day. The entire kit lasts for 14 days, but it promises that you will see results within 3 days. The kit contains 14 packets, each packet containing an upper and lower whitening strip. Each strip is coated with a peroxide-infused gel, which is claimed to mold and adhere to teeth better that any previous Whitestrips product. Crest also notes that this product will only work on natural teeth, and will NOT whiten caps, crowns, veneers, fillings, or dentures. These Whitestrips should not be used by anyone under the age of 12, and should not be used on teeth with braces. Crest even claims that you can drink water while whitening your teeth with this product.
Here is the 3-step method for using this product (taken directly from the Crest website):
- For best results, do not brush teeth immediately before applying strips.
- Open foil pouch and remove.
- Peel strips from backing.
- Apply gel side of strip to teeth. It will instantly mold and adhere to teeth.
- Align strips with gum line and press gently for good contact.
- Fold the rest of strip behind teeth to keep in place.
- Wear strips for 30 minutes once a day, remove and discard.
- Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal comes off cleanly.
After using this kit for the full 14 days, here is what I have personally experienced:
First of all, the claim by Crest that these strips hold much better to your teeth is true. In fact, when trying to remove these strips some may feel that they hold TOO good. I have found that removing them can be a somewhat difficult and messy task. After being in your mouth for 30 minutes the strips are rather slimy and slippery, so I have learned to pull one end loose and then use a tissue to pull the strip off my teeth. You really have to tug pretty hard in order to get these strips off from your teeth! Second, the strips still leave some unpleasant residue on your teeth, so you will want to make sure to brush right after removing the strips. Third, the strips are still a little bit of a pain to apply. It's hard to fold them over your teeth without getting creases in them. But, the fact that they hold strong is a great thing. They hold on tight for the full 30 minutes, and therefore don't slide around on your teeth like the previous Whitestrips did. I don't experience the excessive amount of saliva generated by the previous Whitestrips products either. Although some folks do experience a mild amount of increased sensitivity after repeated use of this product, I was able to complete the full 14 treatments (without skipping a day) without any discomfort whatsoever. These Advanced Seal Whitestrips are a great improvement in design, and they are ultimately much easier to use. I definitely notice that my teeth appear whiter within 2 to 3 treatments, and by the end of the 14-day treatment my teeth looked wonderfully bright.
Overall I am very pleased with the improved design and excellent results provided by the Crest Advanced Seal Whitestrips product. They're not completely perfect, and they are still a bit of a chore to apply, use, and remove. But when all is said and done these strips are definitely the best effort produced by Crest yet. If you are looking for whiter, brighter teeth, and don't mind a 30 (35 minutes including removal and brushing afterward) minute inconvenience for 14 days, I highly recommend the Advanced Seal Whitestrips system from Crest. Shop around though, because they can be found much cheaper on the Internet than in local retail stores. I have found them nearly twenty dollars cheaper on sites like Amazon than what they sell for in brick and mortar stores. In these tough economic times it is always good to save a few bucks whenever possible. After all, paying more for the same product is not going to get your teeth any whiter. =o)
Hurt My Teeth
Yeah, it whitenen my teeth but I found it to hurt my teeth pretty bad. I had to take a tyenol when I was done. Seriously. Don't know if that is common from all the other products but I thought I would let you know.
Use 'em every year
I apply these once a year to keep my teeth whiter, and just brush often the rest of the year. The premium 7-day pack is more convenient than the two week, and premium plus is pretty rough on the gums. Things to take into consideration is the mild discomfort associated with tooth whitening, it can make your gums ache and your teeth sensitive. Some people with already sensitive teeth should probably find another method for whitening, still though, they are a heck of a lot cheaper than having the dentist do it. Also, the dentist usually does such a good job whitening teeth that they look like you brush with radioactive toothpaste or something..I've always stuck to the principle that your teeth shouldn't be any whiter than the whites of your eyes, that way they look nice and white, without that freaky whiteness. In that regard this product will get you where you want to be. Plus, if you brush regularly with a whitening toothpaste, you can maintain your results for a year.
Get Ready to Salivate
My experience after using them 3 days: My teeth are getting whiter. No pain. No sensitivity. My hygenist said people with thin teeth or thin enamel experience the most sensitivity. The strips are very thin and shift easily so don't move your mouth when wearing them. I make sure the strips are on straight and I press the strips into the cracks between my teeth to insure even whitening. The peroxide will slightly foam in your mouth. I think the peroxide works best if you don't get too much saliva on the strips. I salivate like crazy with the strips in my mouth so I lay on my back and look at the ceiling for the whole 30 minutes letting the saliva pool in the back of my mouth. I occasionally swallow to limit the pooling of saliva or use a rolled up paper towel to blot out the saliva. The goal being to keep the strips from getting diluted with too much saliva and keep the strips from shifting around in your mouth. The strips seem to fit my teeth well and should whiten all teeth that show when I smile.
Great! Fast shipping and great product!
It came very fast and I have had great success whitening my teeth. My teeth did get pretty sensitive, but it goes away after a day or two of not using them. It's not necessary to use them all in 7 days so you can definitely take them over a few weeks or so if you have sensitivity troubles.
Messy, but works!
Be prepared for a nasty taste and slimy, slippery strips. But they really did work well. Don't believe the commercials that you can use these anytime, anywhere. Not unless you don't mind drooling on people in public. The strips slip all over when you try to talk or even swallow, and especially DON'T SNEEZE! But as for the whitening, I was pleasantly surprised. A lot better than I was expecting.
Great Product Great Price
Cheaper then any deal going on in local markets right now. Product does just as it claims, whitens teeth. I noticed a remarkable difference after just a few days. After 7 days my teeth were glistening. The first few applications did make my teeth a little sensative, but the sensativity did not last.
Product works, but can cause serious sensitivity.
I've been using Crest Whitestrips for about 4 years to maintain a professional whitening. The Whitestrips definitely help brighten teeth and even out discoloration from coffee & tea. I must warn that the Premium strips can cause some serious sensitivity. I am on day 3 of 7 and had to take the strips off 1/3 through because the pain was so intense. Another person who rated suggested applying the strips every other day and I agree. The strips do work well though, without a doubt. I swear by them and get a lot of compliments on my teeth. Just keep in mind the sensitivity issue.
Quick and easy and super cheap (compared to dentist!)
I bought this because my teeth were beginning to yellow. My dentist (of course) suggested that I use an in-office whitening system that would cost a LOT of money. I decided I would give the Crest system a shot before I took the plunge with the dentist. This worked GREAT. In a couple of days my teeth had already begun to get lightened. Now, after the whole 7 days, I am pleased. They could be whiter for sure but they are absolutely good enough (especially at only $25). Application was pretty easy - be sure to press down the strip as much as possible as a lot of saliva collects while they are on. I got a little tender but nothing I would even remotely describe as painful. I am super glad I bought these!
Seems to be Working
I'm really excited because after three days of use, I can see some improvement in my teeth already. I've had no burning of gums and have experienced only a slight sensitivity to my teeth. I don't know if the Sensodyne I started using two weeks ago in preparation for the use of the strips had any effect but the sensitivity is very tolerable for me. Some gripes: I wish they made the upper strip longer to cover more of the upper teeth and I wish they had cut the lower strip better because you can very well see 3/4 of an inch wasted when you peel off the lower strip from its plastic backing. Will report back on the final result once I've finished the whole treatment.
These help and are totally worth it
I tried this product about a month ago and I must say I'm actually pretty impressed. Admittedly, my expectations for this product weren't that high prior to using it, but I think they exceeded those expectations in the end.
I knew I wouldn't get the same gleaming results as I would by getting my teeth whitened at the dentist office; anyone who has those kinds of expectations from a $25.00 grocery store item is setting themselves up for disappointment. However, the results I did get were a lot better than paying loads more to the dentist.
Like the box says, I noticed results after the third day and by the end of the week my teeth were very noticeably whiter. I'm 27 years old though, so my teeth were just starting to get that yellow-ish tint to them. I'm sure someone older than my self with a life time of say, smoking, drinking coffee or tea, would probably want to get themselves two boxes. However, if you're like me, and just had a bit of a yellow tint to your teeth and want to brighten your smile a bit, this product will do the trick.
As other reviewers have stated, after a few days of using the product your gums may become a bit sore. It's not unbearable and it goes away shortly after you take the strips off. I did notice my gums were a bit sore while brushing my teeth a few days after the last day of the strips, but hey, no pain, no gain. That little bit of pain was worth it to me to have a better smile. I feel a lot more confident when I smile now, that's for sure.
my husband I and have used these twice. the first time we were amazed at the results!!!! that was about 8 months ago and now for the holidays we just did another treatment this week. they are very easy to put in and there is hardly any taste if at all. they fit very well also and I have had no problems of them coming off liek others say. I mean seriously for the price you CANNOT BEAT IT!!! esp for my husband who is a heavy coffee drinker, pop drinker and smoker. the only thing for me is YES the first 3-5 minutes my gums burn and it is uncomfortable but not too bad..the results are WELL WORTH it for me.....I would not say it lasts 18 months but about 6 months for me...great product!! I highly recommend! plus other people even say How did you get your teeth so white???!!!!
Seems to work OK, but the bottom strip is very annoying.....
These seem to work ok, but the bottom strip can come off easily since saliva accumulates over the 30 minutes period you have to keep these in. I hated swallowing while keeping these in, because the taste is really bad -- so I started folding up a napkin and putting it under my tongue when I began the 30 minute period. This helped keep the saliva off of the bottom strip, so it stayed on better. 30 minutes is a really long time to keep something disgusting and slippery on your teeth though -- I wonder if there is a way they could make a product that would only take 10 or 15 minutes?
Really Does The Trick
I just bought this product and have been using it for 3 days and already I see a difference. I purposely only did my top teeth at first because I wanted to see if there was a true noticeable difference. I truly see a difference (not glowing white, mind you)so this morning I decided to put the strips on my bottom teeth. After trying to install the strip on my lower teeth is when I also decided to write a review. Before purchasing the strips I read the reviews and I noticed that a few of the reviews said that the strips were hard to place on the teeth. I decided to go forth and purchase them anyhow because the resounding tone was that the strips really did work. Since I only started with my top teeth I felt lucky that they worked and I found that they were not hard to place on my teeth. The strip went on and stayed in one place. However, when i started my lower teeth this morning, I found that I have the same problem as many others...............the friggin strip moves all around your teeth and just when you think you have it right where you want it, you move your tongue and it has rearranged itself. My solution.......use the strips on your upper teeth and use the paste on the lower teeth. I can not imagine fighting with the strips on my lower teeth for 6 more days!
Final review...............buy the strips, they really work!
works really fast! If you have very sensitive teeth I would recommend using crest regular (14 days) system. It's more mild, takes longer, but gentle on the teeth.
easy to use and really works!
